Why Join the Honors Program?
The Program is:
The Program offers:
-
a 28 credit hour group of courses that
emphasize development of skills for effective communication,
critical thinking, and integration of knowledge from
various disciplines;
-
course-work that meets the General Education
requirements of the University;
-
course-work that allows students of any
major to participate;
-
freshman level classes (introductory seminar
and a rhetoric course) that introduce the students to
the etiquette of the academic community and to the Honors
Program curriculum;
-
help for the students to know themselves
intellectually and learn the process of how intellectual
growth occurs;
-
a sequence of classes as follows:

Who Can Join the Honors Program?
The Program promotes and provides:
-
the sharing of ideas through the interaction
of the students both with each other and also with the
faculty;
-
enrichment through the use of films, suppers,
trips to historical sites, outside speakers, cultural
events, retreats, and state, regional and national conferences;
-
the opportunity of living on an Honors
hall and making use of an Honors common room (which
is used for many activities such as, study, informal
meetings, classes, and programs the students themselves
plan);
-
a computer network for class assignment
work.
Check to see if you're qualified:
- National Merit finalists and semi-finalists are automatically
accepted.
- Students with high school GPA averages of 3.5 or better
(on a 4.0 scale) and at least a score of 26 on the ACT
are given priority.
- If you do not fit in the above categories, but have
demonstrated the potential for academic success, you will
be considered.
- Normally students apply to enter the Honors Program
when they apply to EKU as high school seniors. However,
a few are allowed to enter the program as 2nd semester
freshmen or 1st semester sophomores.
